Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year
Zion Cross
Lorain, freshman
Cross was a Division I state qualifer in the 100- and 200-meter dash. He placed fifth in the 100 with a time of 10.90. He placed ninth in the 200 (22.26). Cross dominated throughout the postseason leading up to state. Cross placed first in the 100 (11.19) and 200 (22.24) at the Amherst District. At the Amherst Regional, he also snagged wins in both events. He finished first in the 100 with a personal record of 10.71 and first in the 200 with a PR of 21.69. Paul Cunningham, Elyria Catholic
He coached two state qualifiers in junior Ted Achladis, who earned All-Ohio honors in discus, and senior Justin Rankin. Elyria Catholic was Division II Orrville District runners-up. The Panthers were represented in eight events at regionals – The 100, 200, 4×100, 400, 4×400, shot put, discus and long jump.
