Lorain Ward 6 Councilman Angel L Arroyo’s pretrial June 19 in Lorain Municipal Court was continued.
Arroyo will appear July 18 for a pretrial on charges of OVI, expired plates, stop sign violation, assured clear distance and implied consent in connection to a March 11 crash in Lorain.
Anthony Baker, Arroyo’s court-appointed attorney, said the hearing was delayed because he still is awaiting discovery documents on the case.
Lorain police responded to the crash about 10:30 p.m., where Arroyo said he was making a right turn in a chrome 2014 Toyota Scion onto East 28th Street from Pearl Avenue when he was struck by a black 2010 Hyundai Elantra driven by a 43-year-old Lorain man, according to the police report.
Officers noted that Arroyo’s eyes were “red and watery,” he seemed disoriented and they could detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage, the report said.
When officers repeatedly asked Arroyo for his driver’s license, he attempted to give them his registration, the report said.
He denied having anything to drink that night.
Arroyo already has avoided jail this year after pleading guilty March 26 to resisting arrest and disorderly conduct persisting stemming from a Jan. 14 incident.
Arroyo was sentenced to 120 days in jail, suspended on the condition he doesn’t pick up any more charges for the next two years.
Initially, Arroyo was charged with domestic violence after an altercation between him and his wife.
The sentence also mandates Arroyo pay a $750 fine, have an evaluation from The LCADA Way and serve one year of probation.
