Brookside at Huron
What: Nonconference game
Where: Kalahari Field
When: 7 p.m., Aug. 25
Records: Brookside 1-0, Huron 1-0
For the record: In the first week of the season, the Cardinals already have as many wins that they had in 2022, in their 35-0 win over Brooklyn. Brookside will be put to the test in its Week 2 game against Huron, who was a second round playoff team in Division V and finished 9-3 (4-1 in Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division). The good news is that Huron graduated three of its four All-Ohioans. The only returning All-Ohioan is kicker Cameron Manner. Brookside had a lot of upside in its offense last week, such as Ben Montgomery, who emerged as an early candidate for the 2023 Matt Wilhelm Award. He rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for 41 yards and a touchdown. A 2-0 start would be momentous for the Cardinals before they head into conference play.
