Avon at Canton McKinley

What: Nonconference game

Where: Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton

When: 7 p.m., Aug. 25

Records: Avon 1-0, McKinley 1-0

For the record: With 12 state championships and two national championships under its belt, Canton McKinley came into the 2023 season 10th in the country, with 865 all-time wins. The Bulldogs went 6-6 last year with three All-Ohioans to lead the way. Even after the graduation of their top players, they got off to a 1-0 start, with a 33-14 win at Warren G. Harding. As always, Avon’s goal is to win the last game of the season, which would solidify a Division II state championship. A trip to Canton could give the Eagles another reminder of their end-goal, as the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium will be the site for the state championship game. Avon easily handled Brunswick, 49-7. Quarterback Nolan Good completed 72.2% of his passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Jakorion Caffey rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns.
