The city of Oberlin and Oberlin College and Conservatory are partnering to host a winter-themed event from 6-8 p.m., Dec., 2, in downtown.

The second ever “Walkin’ In a Winter Oberlin” will feature 25 different activities run by a number of local businesses and organizations that include live music, food and arts and crafts.

Diane Ramos, communications manager for the city of Oberlin, said there have been other winter holiday events in the past in Oberlin, but this one is much bigger and has some momentum after its first edition in 2022.

“Coming out of the pandemic, we wanted to start something new and better for the whole community,” Ramos said. “We partnered with Oberlin College and Conservatory, and they were more than eager to join with us on this endeavor.”

With 25 different events, Ramos said there was a significant amount of planning, but that the community came together to make it happen.

“A lot of work went into it, but also, it was a ‘if you build it, they will come’ situation,'” she said. “All we had to do was ask the businesses, organizations and schools.

“Everybody was eager to be a part of it. It’s a complete community event.”

There will be live performances by the Oberlin High School Marching Band, an Oberlin College string quintet and a fire performer.

Attendees also will have the chance to see some art, make some crafts and indulge in plenty of sweets like s’mores, cookies and hot cocoa, Ramos said

The Holiday Lights Parade that gets going at the beginning of the event is one that guests may not want miss — and there will be a notable person in attendance, she said.

“The Girl Scout groups and Boy Scout groups always do a great job decorating and lighting everything up,” Ramos said. “It’s always fun to watch.

“Of course, Santa comes to town, so it’s also super exciting to see all the kids get excited about that.”
